Spira was born in Glen Rock, New Jersey and attended the Park School of Communications at Ithaca College in Ithaca, NY, where she received a B. She relocated to Los Angeles, where she opened the west coast Affiliate office for RKO and was promoted to Director, Affiliate Relations.
Her technology career grew further as she oversaw high speed Internet via satellite to over 100 countries while serving as Executive Vice President of Sales for Interpacket Networks.
